I believe the physical assault on Senator Rand Paul, in which he sustained five broken ribs, calls for a 30-year sentence in a Federal prison. This is absolutely necessary, and will serve as a strong deterrent to anyone contemplating assaults on the democratically-elected Representatives of the Republic.
An assault against a duly-elected high official of the U.S. Government is not only an assault against the inalienable Property Right of that Individual in their body, but also, in my view, an assault against the U.S. Government and the property right in their vote of the voters who chose this Individual as their Representative in Congress.
I believe this punishment should hold, even when the attacker has no foreknowledge that the victim of his assault is an elected Representative of the Federal Government, as in the case of a random attacker mugging a Congressman on the street.
This heinous and vile assault against Senator Rand Paul must not go unpunished. The People should demand a 30-year sentence without parole in this case as a deterrent against assaults on our Jeffersonian Republic. If the courts fail to deliver such a condign punishment, then the President should immediately send a bill to Congress stipulating that an assault on any member of Congress, the Executive Branch, and the Judiciary, should carry such a sentence.
